Well, there is no movie to look forward to this holiday season. However, the extra 50 minutes of film this special edition is offering should be pretty sweet. Some of the extra scenes: - Aragorn et al are confronted by the Mouth of Sauron at the Black Gate - Gandalf squares off against the Witch King - Aragorn reveals himself to Sauron in the palantir - Saruman makes an appearance at the beginning, but there will be no scouring of the Shire at the end Zug and I are big fans of LOTR in all its forms (I mean, we named our dog Frodo!). I think I'm really looking forward to the scene at the Black Gate -- I still remember how much that affected me when I first read the book. So any other junkies out there who can't wait to see this?

There were many trolls in this movie -- and judging by their drumming, trolls with rhythm! Sadly not an ogre to be seen among the masses! I'm sure they would've been much more intimidating rushing through the gates of Minas Tirith than those trolls!!!

....... They're not putting one of the important scenes in the extra footage? No retaking the shire, or Marry and Pippin being a foot taller than the other hobbits 'cause of all the Ent food they ate? Yeesh.......

Well, Zug and I went out yesterday and picked up the ultimate uber nerd Minas Tirith edition. And watched it.
Nope, the retaking of the Shire wasn't filmed. Some of the new scenes are very impressive. The Mouth of Sauron was as cool as I had hoped, as well as the confrontation between Gandalf and the Witch King.
They added some nice background to Faramir (much as they did in the extended version of Two Towers), and Eowyn did some more butt-kickin. The Houses of Healing are shown. The part about negotiating with the undead army is extended, and there is a good scene involving the black ships.
I believe in Two Towers there is a subtle hint that Merry and Pippin have grown taller, but that scene might also be in the extended version.

My dear Gaien, I too was very dissapointed with the deletian of the scouring of te Shire. Many people hated these chapters. Personally, I believe it was these chapters that spelled out what Tolkien was doing. This is a tale of growth and transformation. Yes it had something to do with unimportant things like destroying a magic ring, putting a new king on the throne, and saving the world from hideous doom. But, what it was supposed to be about, is that you cannot truly grow if you isolate and hide. Merry and Pippin show their coming of age by mustering the shire against Saruman's oppression. They no longer needed a Gandalf or Aragorn. They had flung their childhoods aside and met their challenge head on.

Yeah, and what about gollum? Anything more about him?
As far as world domination and impending doom, eh, who cares. It is all fun and games until someone starts picking thier nose with a tooth pick anyway.
Now gollum, that is some really deep character development there. Sly, cunning, sly, deceitful, sly, intelligent, sly, coy......um...oh and he is very Sly. My kinda guy.

Well Zug, at least someone other than me got the point of the books! Couldn't have put it better myself!
