I'm just curious who among us is an anime fan.
I've enjoyed the following shows and movies:
- Spirited Away (beautiful!) - Princess Monoke - Record of Lodoss War - Fist of the North Star ("You're already dead") - Rune Soldier - Orphen
We don't have the actual Anime Network channel, but we can watch selected series through our cable package. So we've been able to catch some new ones, "Lodoss War" being the most recent.
If anyone has some recommendations, please share! I tend to like ones with a fantasy edge, and/or those with comedy.

Being ::cough:: ::cough:: a little older than some of you, there is always the 'old school' anime I used to watch as after school cartoons:
-Star Blazers "1034 days until..." -Marine Boy -Macross 'this was my first experience with one name three different stories that had nothing to do with each other ala Final Fantasy' -and I saw 'Akira' in an artsy movie theater way back when. This movie withstands the test of time. (I enjoyed this much more than Ghost in the Shell)
There have been some rather disturbing anime I have seen as well Yurosoke Doji comes to mind. Demonic rape scenes very disturbing.
Bubblegum crisis I always enjoyed Tank Police was good as well Project A-Ko was always pretty interesting The Ninja Scrolls
anyway those were some of my favorites from back when.
-Fist of the North Star rocks! and in regards to anime music...the ending piece (jazz) if you look was written by Les Claypool (the bassist for Primus)

I'm glad somebody mentioned Slayers Phelan ;D
Outlaw Star
I am pretty sure it saw a run on Adult Swim (I could be wrong about that) but I don't think it's coming back. Not quite the following that Cowboy Bebop had but I liked it.
Akira
If you haven't seen it then watch it. It's a little hard to follow at first but many people in my generation started with Akira.
Rurouni Kenshin
I'm possitive Cartoon Network ran this - I didnt watch it on Cartoon Network but somebody here must have - and damn the lot of you for not mentioning it.
Rhab - check out Slayers and RG Veda - Yasha from RG Veda is who I had in mind when I came up with the idea for Kyrinn.

yes and this is also called Samurai X (bunch of short movies) the short Samurai X movies are a little more artsy than the Rurouni Kenshin on Cartoon Net but very well done. I think Lodoss is by far my favorite...since I can identify with the characters the best (know alot more about European fantasy than Japanese) Rune Soldier though for the same reasons comes close...because their are two characters that aren't normally done right or not at all in most fantasy books/movies the adventuring rogue and the battle cleric (even though she is rather obnoxious)

Sci-Fi is very diverse their is classic Sci-Fi
ie: 1940, The Left Hand of Darkness, The Foundation series, Clockwork Orange, Neuromancer (great book...alot of the words used as internet lingo were created in this book)
and there are the space operas
ie: Star Trek, Babylon 5, Dune
I think that these are so different that you can certainly find great interest in one

I love the Foundation series.
Has anyone else read the 3 books added on later by Greg bear, David Brin, and Gregory Benford? These were excellent and had a faith versus reason theme that has become very current again recently

I can honestly say I'm a big anime fan ^_^...which explains why a lot of my characters on roleplays not dealing with EQOA are slightly weird. I've watched:
Inuyasha Gundam Wing Silent Mobius Cowboy Bebop Ghost in the Shell Wolf's Rain Outlaw Star Full Metal Alchemist Shaman King (It was okay but they could have had better animation) Gundam Seed Quest of the Stars
Most of the anime I've watched have been seen on Cartoon Network on Adult swim, but Quest of the stars, FMA, Silent modius, and a few others come on Anime Unleashed on TechTV around 12 midnight EST time. I saw a little bit of Ninja scrolls, but I turned it off as soon as that rock thing started...violating that woman. I've watched a lot more, but I can't think of most of the names, though I do remember one with a guy named Lahmnia and the Seed of Forte. Guess that's about it for the moment.

My cable channel just offered one of the Samuria X movies.
WOW
I had only seen the Cartoon Network version of Rurouni Kenshin previously. This series is incredible, in every way. My only problem was that they showed the third of the three films, so there were some things that I didn't understand. Nevertheless, it still made me teary-eyed at the end.
If you have a chance, watch these films -- I've seen the set on Amazon and it's called "Samurai X (OVA)".
Man, I hope we get a 24 hour Anime channel some day...
