ok i am so very confused here. maybe you guys can help me out on this one. why is it that most, not all, guys have to have bigger better things. currently we just got a new surround sound system. and its huge. all the wires and such would drive me nuts, well actually it is cause now i get to watch s/o try to hook everything up to it. so far he has lost svideo to the game cube, he made the mistake of asking me what i thought would be better svideo on tv or the game cube, lol. anyways, from a girls point of view, wouldnt it just be easier to just leave things alone instead of buying all this stuff that needs ten miles of wires and such. or is it just a guy thing to show how uber he is?

Men are just wired differently from Women. Women (generaly speaking, there are always exceptions) have less of an ability to work with objects in 3-dimensional space. The growth of those functions is actualy stunted as a part of a Woman's biology. It's the same with Men and most of the emotional functions of the brain. Men and women were designed to perform different tasks, Men are hunter gatherers - they do things that require manipulation of other objects in the physical world. Women are caregivers/teachers - they're the ones that need, well, those feeling things that they're always talking about. So when you say you dont understand why the big screen and the surround sound is necessery it doesn't surprise me. These are things that are going to enhance his interaction with the physical world. That's good for us guys, that's what we do.
It's the same for us and you're feelings. We don't have strong emotions like women, so we really don't get it. Those movies that make you cry and all the talking you want to do... We understand that as much as you understand the need for the big TV. You would do well to just forget about it, accept the differences because you don't really have any other option.

What are you talking about? Bring on the wires and get me hooked up! I am all for the surround sound. And big screen? Ooooohhh yeeeaaah! Not uncommon that I am the one digging around behind the montitor putting all those oddly colored wires in just the right spot, fiddling with the controls to get it right. And chick flics? Yuck! Bring on the Sci-fi! Who said Spike was the first network for MEN?

As I previously stated : There are always exceptions.

Right you are, Ken... errr Sly! (love watching Spike lol)
I guess I am another one of those "exceptions". When I lived at home, it was always me who would get the electronic gadgets to work. My Dad was a mechanical engineer but he just doesn't have the patience for the new electronic stuff -- my folks finally got digital cable, for example, but are returning it b/c he can't figure out how to use it.
Zug and I are pretty equal gadget-heads -- we bought the widescreen HDTV because we both enjoy that kind of thing. I think Zug's set-up in the loft would make most guys jealous, but I will let him speak of his pride and joy.
I do hate all the wires that comes with this stuff. We set up a wireless network in our home and man, it is awesome! Give me the gadgets, spare me the wires, is what I say!!
I think it's just human nature to want to next best thing, be it some better stereo, better car, better job, whatever.

I think the "bigger" thing is Canadian and not men. Personally I would love to set up a Bose surround sound sytem...and ideally would want everything wireless, like our home network.
I am (after owning a Saturn) a big proponent of letting technology work the bugs out over a few years before getting something.
