I forgot that this thread was on the "old boards" but since not everyone got to read the "old boards" I will start a new thread here. Please list some books that you think a player of EQOA would enjoy or gives in your opinion good characterization of certain races/classes:
Elric of Melnibone (7 book series) All pretty short books. These certainly are not Tolkienesque works of Literature but they do give the most vivid image of the Everquest Shadow Knight as embodied mostly by Yyrkoon, and to a lesser degree by Elric.
The Dragon-Riders of Pern - Anne MacCaffrey give numerous images of bards in a fantasy setting.
Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser - Fritz Lieber(Can't remember the actual book names lol, read them when I was 9 in 1979) portray a Barbarian and Human rogue.

Ok laugh if you will, but first Im gonna say Harry Potter. I get alot of ideas on how to make a spell being cast sound better from there, as well, I have to say that pretty much anything by Anne Rice would give you a good idea how to carry yourself as a delf noble (in my opinion at least) I mean, how can you beat Lestat's attitude toward, well, everything? lol

Another easy one -- "The Dark Elf Trilogy" by R.A. Salvatore. Without fail every time I read one of his books, I get the urge to play a dark elf. The Trilogy has some wonderful background on dark elf (or drow as he says) matriarchal society. "The Icewind Dale" trilogy includes a dwarf, a halfling and a barbarian as major characters and all three races are touched upon. All great books IMHO Robin Hobb has a great series of three books, beginning with "Assassin's Apprentice". I love the characters, and book 3 introduces a very interesting bard -- a complex character who is more than the typical ministrel. I also have to mention one of my absolute favourite fantasy novels, Guy Gavriel Kay's "Tigana". I can't say it gives you a basis for different archetypes but it is a great read and I just love it. I've read all of his books (except the very latest) and just adore this one. Highly recommended. I won't laugh about Harry Potter, Aer -- they are great books and I'm looking forward to Book 6. I just hope I'll be able to lift the darn thing!

ok took me a little bit to figure out what novels i have read that were game related, lol, i read way too much..anyways the current book im reading is called nightseer by laura k hamilton, its about casters, enc, sorcerors and such, oh and they got a dragon who can turn into any shape and who can teleport peoples. they have the monsters, that if you looked into the details some may sound like the ones in game, anyways, the main char is a sorceror, enchanter and prophet( she has dreams that come true) she has an evil mark from a demon that she fought and beat. its all cool, oh and shes an elf and she ends up being attached to an evil elf of sorts, they call him a dark healer. the only other fantasy books ive read is the hobit and the first of the lord of the rings set. i have to say the lord of the rings is not a book for easy reading, the dam thing kept putting me to sleep.
