nope, never read them, and I try to come up with my own stuff, though I am sure that my thoughts have been influenced by movies and whatnot.

lets see... inspiration... i have read the entire Belgariad and Mallorian series by Eddings (if im wrong on spelling or name forgive me, its been awhile since i read them) but i guess i'd have to say i pull inspiration from alot of sources. Example.. the letter to Aer from her love that Wilkes finds, its part mine, and part a quote from Alexandra in 1800s to Nicolas the II (and one of the most beautiful things i have ever personally heard), but the chars personalities i'd have to say are alot of the IRL me, Aer for her sensible and good natured beliefs, and Kaly - well, lets just say Im Kaly when i get into too much ale lol

Cartoons & Comic books here.
I'm especialy fond of old "Usagi Yojimbo" and "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind" comics. Obscure stuff but it's good if you ever get the chance to read any of it. Also the first "Record of Lodoss Wars" is good stuff if you ever watch it.
As a long time Anime fan and also a big Adult Swim fan now I wanted to point out that the jerks that want to knock Adult Swim for bringing Anime into the main stream obviously never had to suffer through the crap shoot of ordering a movie for $70.00 that might be good - might suck - or it might be 90 minutes of demon tenticle rape scenes. You just didn't know. Now that the stuff is readily available I don't have to pay that much and I dont have to take that risk anymore.

There is and English dubbed Nausicca called something slightly different. And your last point is dead on having watched Yurisokidojo (City of Demons) man compared to some of those Japanese images, it make you want to have H.R. Geiger paint a mural in your church. I think an anime that most posters here would like is Rune Soldier (it's pretty much straightforward European style fantasy...with a female cleric, warrior, and rogue paired in an adventure party with a male magician. It is very well done and they have at least one episode that focuses and fleshes out each character.)

Rune Soldier is great, it seems to be over now but hopefully they'll bring back reruns (crosses fingers). I've seen it available on DVD as well. It has good humour, character development, and plotlines.
The cartoon series I'm loving the most right now is Justice League Unlimited. I know, the influence of it would be better suited for "City of Heroes", but they have really put the old series I used to watch as a kid to shame. I mean, Wonder Woman is actually cool in this (and man, what a temper!). Batman is wonderfully portrayed as well.

I love Usagi Yojimbo, and Lone Wolf and Cub. Somewhere on the internet there is a flash cartoon of a stuffed rabbit samuri that is really funny. Has anyone read the Tales of the Otori series by Lian Hearn...they are very good.
