The EQOA boards have been busy lately with activity by some of the developers. It's a very encouraging sign and truly shows they don't intend to let this game die away. One of the developers is named Sapphyra and she posted this upcoming update, one of the best I've seen in a long while:
NPCs fighting back
In the last update, you may have noticed this message:
“More and more foes are requesting assistance from other stronger allies if they feel they are being slain mercilessly and with little effort.” I’d like to clarify what my intent is with this.
As we all know, it is possible for some classes to set up shop and go away from their controller and gain exp. Charming classes have complained that they are running low on interesting and powerful NPCs to charm. Most everyone crowds to the same few areas in each level range and large expanses of Norrath go unused. I think I’ve found a way to help these three issues in one fell swoop. But bear with me, it will take time, patience, and your help.
When someone reports an adventurer that is away from their controller and hunting, I’ve been making a list of those locations. Anytime I have a spare moment, I’ll spend a little time adding some spice to that area…some I have simply added a few more higher level baddies (nothing that someone that was paying attention couldn’t handle though) that have a chance to appear, some I have added new named NPCs with unique loot, and in the future I’m looking to add some small quests relating to these new monsters. These shouldn't be anything that a regular, attentive adventurer (or group) shouldn't be able to handle.
This will do 3 things, I think. First, it will make sure you’re paying attention, and reward you for doing so. Second, it will liven up some of the areas that are underused right now. Third, it will give our charmers more of a variety of NPCs to control…I’m going to make a special effort to put some level 53 and 54 NPCs out there for our spellbinders so they might make use of their master class abilities.
I’ve got a huge list to get to right now, still, but I’ve been able to hit about 15-20 areas so far since mid November. What does this mean? Well, first, make sure and report anyone you see making use of afk exp. If nothing else, I’m making sure all those locations are sent to me and put on my list. Second, go out there and explore! You might find something new that you didn’t see last time...these changes are happening anywhere and everywhere in Norrath. Finally, keep an eye out for these stronger NPCs for your friendly neighborhood charming classes to use as pets.
You will see these changes going into game over the next few months along with all the other things we have in store....
