Adaun opened her eyes. The last thing she remembered was awaking in a strange place. Adaun quietly took in her surroundings, she was in a home of someone with wealth. There was a perfumed smell in the air tinged with the smell of fire. There were dozens of bookshelves in the massive room. At the opposite wall from where she sat was a large gilded fireplace, complete with a fire. There was a table with parchments adorning it and chairs around it. A great fur rug covered the floor and the bed with in which she sat was large and adorned with silk bedding.
Adaun's hand went to her head, it ached, but other than that she felt in good condition. Adaun quietly got to her feet and as she stood she saw her clothes had been cleaned and folded and stitched. At the end of the bed sat her armor neatly stacked and repaired. Adaun quickly dressed and donned her armor. As she buckled her sword belt tight the door opened.
Adaun spun half startled to see who it was that had been caring for her. She turned to see a young man in robes. An apprentice perhaps she thought to herself. The young man hadn't noticed her standing, he had his head down and was clearly enthralled reading the scroll in his hands. He sat at the table and grabbed a piece of parchment and then the bottle of ink and a quill. It was only once he had situated everything that he bothered to look to the bed where Adaun had been laying.
His eyes met with hers and then slid down to her sword. Adaun kept her eyes locked on him, but smiled.
"I am Adaun, do I have you to thank for caring for me?" She said in a kindly voice.
"There is no thanks required, Lord Patryas said that ensuring your recovery was paramount. I merely do my duty as do the other apprentices here." Said the young man.
"So I am free to leave then?" Adaun asked.
"Of course. You are not a prisoner. You should be aware that almost a month has gone by since you were brought here, many things have changed." the young man said with a grave tone to his voice.
"Oh? Such as?" Adaun said arching a curious eyebrow.
"Well I am not much one for rumor, but since it could directly concern you I suppose I must make conjecture from rumor... There has been talk around Neriak that Phelan has returned to the O'Seth house, but is planning to break from it.
It is said that he is a very different person now, a proper Tier'Dal.. their words not mine." The young man was quick to add. " There are suspicions that something has happened to Lady Naldany, but no one knows what. Rumors are also circulating that there is possibly a coming conflict with in the house O'seth. It seems that your spot of Captain of the Guard has been tentatively filled by your second, Olantar. We have kept your presence here unknown, due to the possible volatile situations of house O'seth."
"I see" Said Adaun who had sat back down on the bed in disbelief. If any of this was true, what kind of a scene would she be walking back in on? And what of Phelan? Had he truly changed? One thing was for certain she couldn't' waste anytime trying to find out.
"I am sorry to inform you of the possibly precarious situation, but I though it in your best interests to know." Said the young man as he went back to writing on the parchment. "You are welcome to stay here as long as you like."
"Thank you, but I do think I must be getting back to find out what is really going on over there." Adaun said with resolve as she stood.
"Very well, I shall pass your thanks to Lord Patryas when he returns." Said the young man.
Adaun walked out of the room and quickly found her way to the front door and stepped out of the house. The soft light of the city stung her eyes that had been in eternal darkness for almost a month and her stiff limbs didn't feel like moving, but she forced them to work, one step after another.
