Nikkii squeesed his arm sticking her nails into him. Phelan winced a bit in pain. The green forest area turned into a white cold forest as they continued north along the river. The widzerdress and enchantress was not accostumed to traveling but Nikkii and the other priest was doing fine. The sound of orcs could be herd all around them.
" Why in Norrath would Naldany be this far Phelan .... did you tell her something?"

Phelan flexed his bicep, making his muscle ripple, making sure Nikkii knew that he wasn't going to just take it for long. He turned his half seeing eyes to where he thought hers were.
" She told me to stay in bed, I was blind, what did you wish me to do kill myself trying to go down the stairs? Are you really that stupid? ..... and how would I know Auntie where she is or how far she came north. As for why we are not in Neriak, that smoking corpse back there locked her in her room, so I let her out and we left to spend our wedding night together at least. You do realize as soon as I could make out enough shapes not to die walking around I went looking for her, I really thought I would be dead, but seeing you here makes me wish I was. "
Phelan said scowling.

" Well if you continue to speak to me in such manner you just might end up like him... but I am pleased to hear that you two kids spent the night together so that means you fulfilled your task?"
Then a large number of orcs emerged from the surrounding bushes and began there attack Nikkii let Phelans arm go and chanted a spell protecting them from minor attacks. The orcs prepared to being their assalt Nikkii looked at Phelan.
" So these must be the ones that sent you afloat down stream I hope you can see if not your welcome to cling to my robe." Nikkii said almost laughing

Phelan wanted to stab her through the back, how could Naldany be related to her? Phelan drew his swords in a blinding blur and began them into a routine. It was a more complicated routine, but he had others around him so he wouldn't have to watch his back, for orcs at least.
Phelan could smell the stink of the first orc as it closed distance toward him, he sent his swords in to a series of horizontal swings, followed up with some stabs. Phelan dropped all the feints out of his rountine, knowing that orcs weren't intteligent enough to even follow them. Phelan counted at least 7 downed by his swords alone. Not bad for someone who can't see and not a scratch on me he thought. He wiped his blades clean on the nearest corpse and then resheathed them.
He glanced to the sky, the sun was in the west, he turned to the directiont that had to be north and began on his way again. He could care less if they came with her or not. No one was going to tell him what to do, not Nal, not Nikkii and not the Gods he thought as he walked up the river bank. He stumbled a few times but he didn't fall down, he kept walking.

" Phelan where are you going....?" Nikkii demanded. " You will wait"
Nikkii left the rest of the orcs to the ohter three Teir'dal to face them as they continued north. A small fort in the side of a mountain could be seen in the distance.

" Look Nikkii, I could care less about you, I want to find my wife. You can come along if you want, she is related to you, but I doubt that matters very much to you at all... as for captain of the guard find someone else. "
Phelan didn't turn to her when he spoke nor did he miss a beat in his awkward gait. He merely held his head high and walked on listening intently for Naldany. He didnt' miss the sound of the startled gasp Nikkii took after his comment either.

Adaun came over the hilltop and saw the river. She knew that if she followed it south she could find a road home somewhere. She spotted a small fort on the other side that appeared to wind all the way up the mountain on which it sat. Further down the riverside to the south there were a group of...Tier Dal.
Yes I am saved, surely they must know the way home. Then I can track down my brother, he eyes narrowed to slits at the thought of Phelan. She began making her way toward the group.

Naldany could hear voices as she started to sit up she felt a strange feeling within her as she looked about to see she was surrounded by some rather large humans. In fear she scooted back as far as she could against the wall of the cabin.
" Donna be afrian there lass one in your condition shouldn't be out in this weather, and certainly not alone." one of the barberians said.
" My condition? Who are you.... Where am I?"
" We are a tribe of the north and you are in Diren hold.. as your condition we notices you carry another soul within ye."
Nikkii was enraged by Phelan's dismissal of his duty as the guard captian. She had about all she could stand of Phelan and his comments. She came up behind him and pushed him down into the snow.
" This is not something you can just brush off you tool it will be official once we are back in Neriak and you WILL like it."

That was it, Phelan didnt' care if he would die or not he wasn't about to take this. He lay in the snow not moving until he knew Nikkii was close enough to catch, he then kicked her legs out from under her and rolled to his back and came to his feet swords in hand.
" I have stood by for the better of others while you shoved me around and beat on me and insulted me left and right. I dont' care who you are and what you can do. If I wanted to I could have stuffed a blade through your back and out your breast while we were walking... but you see I have something you do not... a conciense.
I couldnt' live with myself if I murdered you from behind no matter what you did to me. Kill me if you wish but I don't think Naldany would be happy about it. But I am sure you can trick another pawn to marry her, though I doubt they will care about her the way I do. You are not better than me."
Phelan stood over her looking down at her in the snow.

Nikkii was so furious that Phelan got the drop on her. Her face was almost a reddish hue from the blood rushing to her face. Then she just simply got up and walked past Phelan then stopped.
" Know this whelp if you remeber what happened the last time you attempted to fight me.. I won't kill you ... but know only a few words stand between you and being dead .. besides you know where my daughter is and you have still to pass your seed to my niece so if you are quite finished we should check that fort."

She may not like me, but dam it she will respect me or I will get killed. I don't know which one is better for me. Phelan thought as he smiled on the inside. He sheathed his swords and followed behind the blur that was Nikkii. Phelan thought that he could tell more colors now and things were getting a little clearer.
He hoped Naldany was ok. He hoped she would understand that he wasnt' going to be captain of the guard. He would try his hardest to get out of it. He would be killed, he wouldnt' get halflings for sacrifice nor would he allow his guards to randomly kill other races either. He knew that it would be bad if he had to take the position.

As Adaun drew closer she could see that two of them were in a fight. She didnt' know why they were fighting, but one of them must have been important because the other three were all drawing back gasping. She hurried maybe she could help and gain some favor with someone.
They got up and headed toward the fort as she got to the edge of the river.

Nikkii walked faster trying to leave Phelan behind hoping he would trip over something but to her surprise he was still right behind her. Nikkii could tell they was being watched and stopped to look in the direction she senced the watcher. They was so close to the fort but wanted to see who was behind them now.
" I think we have company Mr.O'seth ready yourself."

Phelan really didn't enjoy Nikkii's presence at all, but she did have some common sense about her. He glanced across the river to where Nikkii was he saw a blurry spot, that must be to whom she was refering. He placed his hands on his swords and half drew them, he still couldnt' see and would need every advantage.

Adaun looked across the bank and couldn't belive her eyes. There was her brother standing there with that damable priestess that had healled him before and three others. All that stood in her way was the priestess. If she could do it quickly then it would be over. A wicked smile broke across her face as she began to wade throught the water.
