Dantherian walked closer to the Elven cities than he had in a few years. He had been patrolling the borders of Fayspire and Telethin, keeping the blight of the ever spreading orc epidemic at bay.
Dantherian crested the ridge that hid Telethin from view. He looked down the hill and saw one of his old friends sitting staring at the the city. Astounded he approached Dargais carefully, not wanting to scare her.
" Dargais? What are you doing sitting out here? " Dantherian asked upon his approach.
She turned to answer him and he saw the sparkle of tears running down her flawless face. He quickly scanned her over to make sure she was not harmed. He then took a quick survey of the land about them, he knew that the orcs had been getting closer and closer to the cities.

Dargais quickly wiped the tears from her eyes. She was not prone to moments of weakness and hated it when others thought of her so.
"Unfortunatly dear sir," she stated through blurred eyes"A piece of dirt got caught in my eye. I came here to help wash it out." She made a rubbing gesture at one of her eyes"Ah, there we go! Now, how can I be of service..."
The words nearly died in her mouth. Before her stood a friend who left a few years ago to help with the Orc invasion and this was the first she had seen him since.
"Dantherian, and in one piece! Thank Karana for small miricles" she smirked.

" Tis no miracle lass " Dantherian said with a wink in his best dwarven accent. " Tunare smiles upon the good and guides my blade, the orcs didnt' stand a chance. There are still several more and I intend to have their blood join the stream of blood from their fallen kin, but then I saw you here.... " he trailed off. " Dargais, I know it has been a few years but I know when a friend is lying, what is wrong, there was no dirt caught in your eye, was there? "
Dantherian looked at her with worry crossing his youthful elven face. He knew something was bothering her, he didnt know if she would tell him, it had been a long time since they last had talked.
Much to his suprise none of his friends ventured out to push back the tide of orcs. To each his own calling he figured, but he thought for sure that Aramis and his younger brother, Gaien No Elven, as Dantherian used to refer to him, would have joined the fight for a little while at least. Thinking of the adopted human he was friends with brought a brief smirk to his face. All of this flashed through his mind in the mere moments between his question and her response.

Dargais decided to turn the tide of this converation before it became more than she could bear. She trusted the young paladin, but much had happened since he had left and people changed, Gaien had showed her that.
"How dare you call me a liar! To affront a lady's honor in such a manor! I thought paladins like yourself were supposed to be noble and caring!"
Dargais spun about on her heels and looked out at Felwithe, awaiting Dantherian's response.

Dantherian was a bit taken aback at her response, it was uncharacteristic of his people to be so emotionally charged and quick to anger. Maybe too much had changed since he had been gone, it saddenned him to think that maybe he could not relate to his friends any more.
" I am sorry Dargais, I did not mean to offend you, but it seemed to me that something was bothering you. Compassion is at the core of being a paladin as well as helping others. I am sorry, I will go now. " Dantherian says as he turns to leave bowing his head.

Dargais heaved a heavy sigh before repling.
"Nay Dantherian, stay if you wish. I... I'm sorry. I just have alot on my mind at the moment and it is weighing heavily upon me. I did not mean to lash out so."
She turned about to regard her old friend.
"It is good to see you back. How long are you staying? Tell me all about your adventures!"

" Nay I shall only stay if you wish it. I wasn't planning on coming back to the city till I spotted you from the top of the ridge... " He scratched his chin in ponderance. " Maybe I shall stay a bit, it has been awhile, I do miss talking to everyone, you, Aramis and yes even Gaien No Elven. " Dantherian said laughing as he spoke taking delight in his clever nickname for the human who was raised and elf.

"Dantherian," Dargais begain, her voice turning thick with emotion,"Aramis was slain by a Teir'Dal several years ago and Gaien left to avenge him. He had returned a day or so past but his family had been slain during his departure and I fear the loss of the only family he had left was too great a burden to bear. He left to seek out his old friend, Dedrick Oakheart, near Halas."
"I weep in part because I feel for his loss Dantherian, and also because I... I care for him... deeply."
Tears began to once again well up in Dargais eyes, but she hastley rubbed them away.
"Gaien managed in part to avenge his brother, the Tier'Dal named Phelan was burried by his hand, but his soul is troubled and I fear in my heart that something terrible has happened to him! My heart is deeply saddened, as if his spirit has moved on to another place, much like the rest of his family. He forbade me to go with him, though all I wanted was to try and keep him safe." She was embarassed by the last statement but she did not let it show.
"Forgive my rash greeting old friend, but perhaps my tale lends some insight into my mindset. Please, let us begin anew."

Dantherian was set back on his heels as if though he had been hit. He pushed his sword into the soft soil and set his helmet on top of it. He sat with his face in his hands for a moment. He listened as Dargais talked and began to understand her pain.
" I see.... well tell me more of what I have missed. Then I will mourn our fallen friend Aramis. Then perhaps you will allow me your porch for shelter? " He said smiling.
" Then we will see what tomorrow brings with the rise of the sun. " Dantherian said again.

Dargais wove her tales of all that had occured since Dantherian's departure and as twilight loomed over the horizon, Dargais led Dantherian to her humble shelter.
She had made her tree-house in the woods where Gaien's family had been slain and concidered herself somewhat of a guardian and protector over the desecrated home of her friend.
She had never had the nerve to return to the ravaged home, but she kept the orcs and maraudering bandits from pillaging it over the years.
For the most part the young paladin simply walked beside her or made idle chatter to help pass the time. A tree-house was not the sort of lodging that Dantherian was used to, but he accepted her hospitality warmly.

Dantherian didnt' sleep well that night. Being unacustom to living a tree, since he had grown up in fayspire, he was afraid he would fall when he slept. Grief assulted him as he slept, he had considered Aramis as close as a brother as he had with his little group of friends. And now Gaien gone, it pulled at his heart, but each must walk their own path before the gods. Was this the reason he had come back toward the city, to learn the fate of his friends?
As moring came Dantherian sat with his feet dangling off the porch. Watching the sun rise, he realized that Dargais wounds were from Gaien, but she had had time to deal with Aramis' death. Gaien had avenged his brother, he wondered if he felt any relief from his grief through vengance.
His thoughts wandered aimlessly wondering what his path shall be now. He had a friend who was grieving and in need of a friend. But what path to take and how were better questions. A trip perhaps he mused, to Qeynos and the glade perhaps? His thoughts rambled on as he watched the sunrise and thanked Tunare that he was blessed with the gift of life.

Dargais awoke to a sunrise like none other and a light rain that filled the air with the confortable scent of morning dew. Dargais loved it when it rained.
She stepped outside to view the sunrise with Dantherian and bathed herself in its raidence. It was several long moments before she spoke and doing so seemed to startle Dantherian from his ponderings.
"I would care to know of Gaien's fate, Dantherian, yet I am umsure of how to begin. To understand him at present would require delving into his past and retracing his steps. I fear, however, that such a task might be unwanted by our friend and that if we waste too my time, we may never see him again."
"Then again, it is his path to walk and perhaps we should walk our own. What say you, Dantherian?"

" Finding a path of our own may be wise, I doubt good ole, big lobes no elven, would appriciate us finding him. I belive that he is on a path that he must complete alone, but if you insist on going after him I will stand by your side the entire way. "
Dantherian said turning to look at her.
"I am not sure where you would wish to go, that is if we go some where other than after Gaien. There are many places to venture. The God's gave us much room to enjoy creation and nature in. "
Dantherian said with a smile as he put on his helmet and checked the strapping on his scabbard.

Dantherian stood and began climbing down out of the treehouse. He felt much better with his feet on solid ground. Dargais follwed behind him, he headed for the tavern in telethin, even though it meant being off the ground again. He knew that Dargais would feel more comfortable in her own tavern. " Danth... where are we going? I dont' remember deciding. " Dar said smiling.
" I thought that we would make a toast to where ever we are headed off to and then have a drink and ask for the blessing of Tunare and Karana before we decide. " Danth said smiling.
They walked in the Tavern and Danth paused by the door and looked over the bulletin board. There was something that had caught his eye. He pulled it down and took it to the table where Dar had sat down at.

Dantherian looked at Dargais and layed the note down. He pointed to it as he drank his first ale. The note read :
To the people of Norrath.
This is an important notice, calling everyone of every race and class to the aide of one of our people. The barbarian shaman, Ahamae, adopted daughter of Dagget Oxhammer, grandson of General Oxfist, has begun a quest to rid the world of evil in the wilds. Far too long have the gnolls, orcs, and other evils plagued our world.
We ask your assistance, good people of Norrath. We ask that you aide in this quest, that someone help Ahamae in her journey. The shamanesses whereabouts are not known to us at this point in time, but we ask that any offers of help be sent through messages to the Warriors of Moradhim, so that when she next contacts us, we may give her your names.
General Oxfist of the Warriors of Moradhim.
Dargais read the note and then glanced up at Dantherian who had gotten and begun downing another ale before she had gotten done reading the note. He slammed the glass back to the table and smiled.
" Ahhh.....there isnt anything like ale. You dont' realize how much you miss it after about a year or so. well what do you think? " Danth said.
