Rhabuka,
I arrived at the great Church of Marr two days ago. I entered the gates, using my powers of deception to appear under the guise of a human and made my way through the church halls where I found a priest looking over some books. I came beside him and began to pretend like I was interested in a book near him. He looked up and stared strait in my eyes for a second, which felt like hours. Then he smiled and asked if he could help me. I looked back at him with a small smile and said I was passing through and was wondering if I could stay for a few days. Here is the dialogue as best as I can recall it from that point until this letter was written.
The priest allowed his kind look to settle on me and replied, “All are welcome into the gates of the great Church of Marr. You are welcome to stay for as long as you wish, if you don’t mind our humble accommodations.”
“All are welcome?” I thought. “Yeah right, if only you knew who I really was, your guards would have slaughtered me the moment they laid eyes on my pale flesh.”
“I thank you for your kindness.”
And with that he showed me to a small room used as a library which had a tiny bed set up in one corner.
“You may sleep here. I am sorry about its location, but this is the most private area we have to offer at this time.”
“It is more than enough, thank you.” I replied. He bowed his head slightly and left.
I stayed in that room until I could figure out how I would approach the priest and tell him of my feelings. But all my preparations were wasted, for he came to me the following evening.
“I hope I am not bothering you,” said the priest as he entered.
“Oh, no, not at all. Please come in.”
The priest began to look over some of the books near my bed, but he felt my eyes staring at him. “Can I help you with anything?”
“Well, you seem quite knowledgeable, and I have a…a friend who requested that if I passed by this church, to ask about her recent incident.”
“I would be glad to help in anyway I can. Tell me of your friend’s incident.”
“Well, her eyes are red and she was wondering what that meant.”
“Hmmmm…red eyes are very symbolic, was she born with them or did they suddenly turn red?”
“They turned red after she killed her father.”
I thought the priest would be disturbed by that comment, but he did not show any signs of shock at all.
“Well, in that case, red eyes can stand for 3 things. Blood lust, hatred, or self sacrifice. In order for her eyes to have turned red, she would have experienced all three, but when they turn red, it means that one of these three attitudes has made an inseparable connection with her purpose in life. The key to discovering which one has won over the other two lies in how your friend felt just after her eyes turned red.”
“I see. She explained her feelings to me, maybe we can find out which one won?”
“Very well. Was her father’s death bloody? Could that have affected her?”
“No,” I replied. “She said she saw blood on the floor, but it did not seem to disturb her.”
“Then blood lust is out of the question. Does she feel any hate towards someone, or her father?”
“She used to, but she said that after she killed her father, she felt sad, and actually felt the hate she once harbored disappear from her heart.”
The priest looked at me then as he continued to explain the red eyes. “Then that only leaves self sacrifice. Your friend’s red eyes symbolize that she will spend the rest of her life in service of others in one way or another.”
I stopped and thought about this. Me? Spend the rest of my life in service? It didn’t make since.
“Has your friend felt more kind and willing to work with others lately?”
“Yes, I noticed a great change in her personality. She has become more soft hearted and kind.”
The priest smiled. “Good, then that proves it. That is as far as my knowledge extends I am afraid.”
“ Oh, no, you have been most helpful, thank you.”
“Let me know if you have any more questions. I may not have the answer, but you will have my whole life’s search for knowledge at your disposal.”
And with that the priest left me.
This evening, everything became clear to me in a vision.
I was sitting on a ledge that over looked one of the church’s great halls when I was suddenly blinded by a great light. When the light dimmed I saw myself. Beside me was you, Rhabuka. You handed me a small item, I could not tell what it was. I took the item and changed my appearance to look like that of a forest elf. Then you disappeared and a male forest elf appeared. I handed him the item with a smile. Then I was blinded again by the bright light.
I have not regained my ability to see, so I have charmed a pen to write down my thoughts for me. I must stay here until I can see again, but Rhabuka, for once in my life, I am finally beginning to understand. I am here to serve as a link between the races. That is why I felt that way about Bornus, when most other Tier’Dal would never feel that way about a human. And that is why I feel more kind and accepting than I used to. I am the only one who has the ability to talk to all the races because of the power of the wisp. I finally understand. I thank you Rhabuka, for working with me and letting me learn more of my totem. You have helped me reach this revalation.
I hope to see you again soon,
Slyfoot M’Zors, Enchantress of the Wisp.
