(translated from the Ogrish tongue by Elwing, Elvish paladin of Fayspires and professional linguist)
Most folk know that the children of Rallos Zek were struck dumb by a curse placed upon them many hundreds of years ago. To this day most Ogres take up the ways of the warrior or shadowknight. There are only a handful who show magical talents, and fewer still who are able to understand and make use of the spirit world.
I was born into a family of warriors but it soon became apparent that my path would be quite different. At an early age, I showed a strong ability to call upon the spirit world to aid me. I would sometimes use these forces to shift blame for my misdeeds upon one of my five older brothers. One day, the great Mystic Gunthak, guildmaster of the Greenbloods in Oggok, caught me in one of these lies. He saw a greater purpose in me, despite my rebellious ways.
Gunthak took me from my family and trained me to become one of the Chosen. The Mystics Oligan and Grede took me under their wing as well. Throughout my apprenticeship, I learned how to channel my will, and how to regain spiritual strength through meditation. They taught me that a true tribal leader had to know how to fight, but just as important was the ability to heal my comrades. I have learned how to coerce some spirits into entering a mortal body to grant them increased powers for a period of time, and how to persuade other spirits to cripple my enemies with poison and fatigue.
One day I undertook a great journey to commune with one of my great ancestors – Argra, the ancient shaman and one of the Old Ones. She has helped me understand the many visions and prophetic dreams I have had, as well as how to interpret those of others in my tribe. As Ogres no longer have a written language, Argra has spoken to me about many of the traditions of my people.
Slowly, I am growing wiser. I feel that I have almost earned my totem, that soon the Griffon of Wisdom will be a fitting description for me. I look around and everywhere there is life and energy. Everywhere there are spirits. I feel there is much for me to learn and to see, and I look for others who wish to seek out this knowledge. One day, I would see the glory of my race restored.
