Am I the only one that went and saw this movie? I thought it rocked, though I have never read the book, I have heard that it deviates from the book. After seeing this movie though I am actually planning on buying the book on my next day off. Was just wondering if anyone else saw it.

It is totally different from the book as much as the Time Machine was different from the book. The best is if you can listen to the Orson Welles broadcast! Basically it affected the US like saying bomb on an airplane. I like the original movie much more. I dunno I thought it was...ok...at best...a little dissapointing at worst. Not that much suspense. Spielberg...Spielberged (When Dinosaurs ruled the earth...you all know what I mean) it. I certainly enjoyed Batman and Star Wars alot more...and hopefully will enjoy the FF more as well. (I just hope it does well coz if there is a second movie they would almost have to have Galactus ). I would rate War of the Worlds as entertaining and personally wish we had seen Howl's Magic Castle instead (but I am biased to seeing anime in the theater if possible...loved Ghost in the SHell and Princess Mononoke on the big screen)

I hear that a lot from people who have read the book, that the movie was just ok. I think that is going to be true with most books your read and then go see as a movie, though. Writing a story gives you freedoms that can't be done with a movie. The Lord of the Rings movies were good and probably as close to the books on film as you can get, but I was a bit dissapointed. The way I saw things in my head were alot different. Fantastic Four looks good. Hopefully it will be good. A Galactus story would be cool and would include the silver surfer which would be absolutely cool. As for War of the Worlds, I think if you haven't read the book then you will enjoy it with very few gripes, however if you are a fan of the book or broadcast you may end up dissapointed. My advice would be to go into the movie with the understanding that the story has been modernized and changed. Perhaps approach it as a new movie instead of a remake.
