For a few brief moments Kyrinn knew only darkness. Then the sounds came back to him, fighting, somewhere. He could almost remember, remembering seemed important. Next, bright light, and the fuzzy world started to come back into focus. He had been losing a fight, with that Teir'dal girl. That assassin that Slyfoot had brought. She was fighting with Ogres now, on the wall? No he was lying on the ground. Then the pain hit him, pain in his shattered arm, pain in his chest. She had most likely broken his ribs when she hit him in the chest. It was so hard to focus now. Who was she and how was it that she was so strong. He had to do something or he would die here. Slowly and painfully he started to try and get to his feet.
Three more Bouncers had entered the fray while Kyrinn was trying to stand. Darlena was beating them badly one or two at a time but she was starting to be worn down by their numbers. So focussed on her fight with the Bouncers was she that she did not notice that Kyrinn was awake and moving. She had brought another Ogre down to his knees and had thrust her wide bladed Greatsword into his back. The blade had slipped between his back plates and exited through the middle of his chest plate. Before she could free the sword another Ogre attacked her with a spiked mace, and another unarmed tried to leap on her. It was taking every bit of her concentration to dodge all of the incoming attacks but she had managed to keep one hand on the hilt of her sword. She darted low under a clumsy attack and reached up, grasping the hilt with her other hand and started to make a dash away. The sword started sliding free as she backed up. As she was moving she started to turn to her opposite direction and as she did Kyrinn's gauntleted fist crashed into her face.
The punch turned her head and rattled her vision but instinctively she turned her head back and before he could pull his hand away, she bit him. Her teeth punched through his gauntlet and into his hand underneath. His blood splashed on her face as he jerked his hand away. Kyrinn staggered back, leaning on a chair for support. Darlena ripped her sword free and parried an incoming attack all in one motion. Then turned and cut down another Ogre with a chop to his chest.
Kyrinn's situation was grave indeed. His last hope was to steal her life energy as he had done to Slyfoot the night prior. As she fought with the Ogres he began to speak the dark words of a blood path Shadow Knight. The two became bathed in the sickly orange glow as Darlena's life-force was drained into him. The Ogre's backed up as they witnessed the magic take hold of her. For a split second Kyrinn felt his strength begin to return and his wounds start to heal. Darlena fell to one knee, plunging her sword point downward into the stone to hold herself up. She turned her head to Kyrinn, chanting herself. As she finished the glow around Darlena burned brightest. Kyrinn was wracked with pain as energy he had tried to steal was torn away from him. Everything he had tried to drain was taken along with more of his own energy. Kyrinn slumped to the floor on his knees as his remaining life force was drained from him. With the last of his strength he spoke his final words.
"...You...monster..."
Kyrinn fell forward and lay still on the floor. The Ogre's surged forward to press their attack. Now that Kyrinn was dead it was time to make her escape. Several more Ogres's tried their hand against her that day as she cut her bloody path to the gates of Oggok. Most of them that tried fell to the tiny Dark Knight. As she dashed from the gates out into the jungle the Ogres stopped their pursuit. Without a horse it would take her some time to walk to Gerntar Mines. Slyfoot was going to get a head start on her. With a sigh she headed off into the mountains, she could at least make the tunnel by nightfall.
